Mariann came to Winter Park Tech because she heard of
its great reputation as a school for studying the English
language. This was very important to her because she
wanted a good language education that could build on
what she had learned since moving to the U.S.
Her knowledge of English improved very much at Winter
Park Tech. "It started from the little English I
already knew, and now I have an excellent foundation
on which I can continue to build." With her improved
English, Mariann is now a volunteer math tutor at a local
school, working with American students, which she finds
very rewarding. "I can help the students in their
math studies, which also helps me with my English. I
used to be a math teacher in my country, and the tutoring
helps me practice my English in real-life situations."
"My experience at Winter Park Tech was overwhelmingly
positive, especially because of quality teachers who
obviously care about their students. I liked the fact
that classes weren't too big and there was a lot of close
teamwork." Mariann also enjoyed using the computer
software, because it provided her with what she considers "a
better method of self-study."
Today, Mariann is glad she joined the Adult English
Literacy program. "I think this experience definitely
has benefited me. Winter Park Tech managed to inform
me about this country, its language, the culture and
customs of its people, and opened my eyes to the American
way of life." |
