National Technical Honor Society

This organization recognizes outstanding achievement in the career and technical arena. The mission of this society is to honor student achievement and leadership, promote educational excellence, and enhance career opportunities for the NTHS membership. Qualification is based upon a 3.5gpa, excellent attendance, and the ability to work in a team environment.

National Adult Education Honor Society. 

The mission of the National Adult Education Honor Society is to provide meaningful recognition to deserving adult education students, to improve student employment opportunities, to develop student ambassadors for local adult education programs and to create adult education awareness with school administrators and state legislators. Students pay no dues and do not have required meetings or faculty sponsors. NAEHS by-laws prohibit NAEHS from offering anything for sale to student members. Their only obligation is to share with others what adult education has meant to them and encourage family members to take advantage of the local adult education program. To qualify for NAEHS membership adult education students must demonstrate the following attributes:
  1. Dependable attendance
  2. Cooperative attitude
  3. Work ethic
All enrolled adult education students are eligible for NAEHS membership including ESOL, ABE, Literacy, High School Diploma and GED students.

Student Advisory Board

This organization represents the general student population of the technical center. Representatives are selected from each program. The board meets regularly to define the suggestions and concerns brought forth by the student body. SAB activities may include campus improvement, blood drives, student seminars, fund raisers and community service projects.

Students select two representatives from each program /class to attend the SAB meeting. These representatives will share the information with the program /class after the meeting.  Students are to make their selections using the following qualifications:
 

  • Leadership potential
  • Self-Motivated
  • Inquisitive
  • Creative
  • Interested in making positive changes
  • Making sufficient academic progress

Skills USA

Skills USA - Awareness Week
 
This week (October 12-15) is SkillsUSA information week.  The intent is to raise awareness of SkillsUSA and the opportunities it provides for students when they join including competition on a regional, state and national basis.  Each year SkillsUSA benefits students by offering $1 Million in scholarships for students competing at the national level.  In addition upon joining student have access to curriculum that teaches workplace skills.
 
These are the activities you will see on the Winter Park campus.  Every day an announcement will be made over the intercom informing students about opportunities if they join.  This is a knowledge or information campaign not a recruitment campaign.  Recruiting will take place a little later; the exact dates will be announced shortly.  SkillsUSA flyers have been printed and are available for distribution. You will see posters announcing SkillsUSA information week throughout the campus. One day this week student attending Mid-Florida Tech who is also a SkillsUSA elected officer will be on campus to present information and answer questions about the SkillsUSA program.  Information sessions will be set in a festive environment where popcorn will be available.  The date and location information will be announced when finalized.

Toastmasters club

New at Winter Park Tech - Toastmasters Club.

Last Spring Winter Park Tech students started a student run Toastmasters Club.  The official name of the club is titled “Technically Speaking.”  It is open to the public and students from all programs attend weekly meetings on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to enhance their presentation, communication and professional skills.  Students have the pleasure of being “coached” by professional speakers from the Winter Park Toastmasters club.  Students hold positions such as President, Treasurer, Secretary  and Sergeant at Arms.
