WPT East Campus Groundbreaking

Winter Park Tech celebrated the addition of a new technical center campus that will open later this year during a groundbreaking ceremony held recently. The center will house the current pharmacy and patient care tech programs, in addition to nail tech and facial tech programs. The campus is located in East Orlando across from Timber Creek High.

The project is also a partnership with Timber Creek High and will serve as an innovative solution to help relieve the overcrowding of the high school by accommodating about 750 of its students until 2009 when a relief school for Timber Creek is scheduled to be completed. Once the new high school opens, the new branch to the Winter Park Tech campus will offer programs for adults and high school students in biotechnology, environmental engineering, simulation and robotics, digital media, home integration technology and massage therapy.

"We expect that this campus will quickly become an educational hub for the community beginning the day it opens," said Winter Park Tech Director Diane Culpepper. "This technical center campus will offer opportunities for adults and high school students to prepare them for the careers of the future that focus on high tech business and industry clusters, which have already become an integral part of the East Orange community landscape."

More than 200 people were on hand to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the new branch of the Winter Park Tech campus that will be located in East Orlando. Those joining in the ceremonial shoveling of the dirt included (from left) Winter Park Tech School Advisory Chair Kevin Green, Timber Creek High Principal John Wright, Deputy Superintendent of Instruction and Curriculum Services Jan Pratt, School Board Member Daryl Flynn, Winter Park Tech Director Diane Culpepper and East Area Superintendent John Edwards. The new campus will be home to the current pharmacy and patient care tech programs and is expected to open later this year.
