How do I apply for financial aid?
You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the appropriate school/award year. The application can be found in the Financial Aid office, or you can visit the FAFSA website.
If I need help in completing the application, who do I see?
If you have questions about the application, call or see a staff member in the Financial Aid office located across from Registration.
How long does it take to get the financial aid results back?
It depends on how the application was submitted. If you electronically submitted your application, the results should be received within 5 to 7 business days (Note: There is a computer available in Room 3 for students to electronically submit the application). If you mailed the application, you can expect to receive the results in the mail in 4 to 6 weeks.
If I have completed my FAFSA application and the information has been received, am I ready to begin class?
Completing the FAFSA is only one phase of getting ready to begin classes. You must meet with a guidance counselor, and in most cases, interview with the instructor before enrolling in a technical program. The guidance counselor will work with you to complete the registration process.
When is someone available in the Financial Aid office to meet or talk with me?
The office is open 7:45 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 7:45 am - 3:15 pm on Friday. The office is also open on the first Thursday of each month from 7:45 am - 6:30 pm. You may come in to meet with the financial Aid staff member or call them at 407.622.2902 or 407.622.2900 ext. 2202.
If I don't qualify for a federal Pell Grant, are there other resources to help me with my tuition?
If you do not qualify for a Federal Pell Grant but economic need can be determined, you may qualify for the Student Financial Assistance Fund (SFAF). There are also school-based scholarships available. See a counselor for information about these scholarships. You may also be eligible for an installment contract which permits tuition to be paid over a period of time. We also have a one-stop counselor on campus who can discuss financial resources available through Workforce Central Florida. Talk to your counselor to discuss all the options available.
If I am a veteran, are there programs available that are VA approved?
Yes there are many cerificate programs that have been approved by the Bureau of State Approving Agency for Veterans Training. Visit Winter Park Tech's VA cerfiying official located in the Financial Aid office to apply for or reactivate your VA educational entitlement.
