The GED
Exit Option Program is an Orange County Alternative
Education Program. It is open to students who are
not able to earn 24 credits and/or attain a 2.0
GPA by the end of their senior year. This is not
an Early Exit Program.
The Exit Option Program is not based on credits
or GPA, but instead is competency-based and has
certain requirements. They are as follows:
- Pass the General Education Diploma Test-GED
- Pass the Florida Comprehensive Assessment
Test-FCAT
- Pass a two-period class at Winter Park
Tech - this class will prepare the
students for
the above-named tests
- Pass a career and technical education
course at Winter Park Tech or participate in
a supervised On-the-Job Training Program
- Maintain good attendance and appropriate
behavior

At the
end of the school year students who successfully
complete the program may take part in graduation
ceremonies and receive a diploma from their home
high school. Their transcript, however, will reflect
less than 25 credits and participation in an Alternative
Program.
An application process is required for this
program. Students must be referred by the home
high school counselor. Students must take the
TABE and the Pre-GED tests, establishing certain
basic scores for admission. Various forms of
documentation must be provided and a charge of
$70.00 must be prepaid to cover the cost of the
GED test. |
